Former minister Yiannos Papantoniou and his wife Stavroula Kourakou are to be incarcerated in Korydallos prison on Wednesday, according to the prosecutor's decision.
Greek judicial authorities ordered that the couple be remanded in custody late on Tuesday, following their testimony on charges of money laundering.
Papantoniou denied charges of having laundered 2.8-million-euros in kickbacks for a contract to upgrade six Greek navy frigates.
The contract was signed in 2003 when Papantoniou was at the helm of the defence ministry.
